Opponents twist the lion's tail at their peril these days. Too often in the past, Manchester United lacked the ability to come back off the ropes when things went against them. Call it "bottle" or wayward confidence, or more likely it was a matter of them simply not being quite good enough. They have always had a talent for picking themselves up off the floor in time for the next game, but never before have they been able to stand a game on its head on going a goal down. Several times lately they have fallen behind, but kept their cool and determination to come from behind and win. Their win against Liverpool illustrated this season's new-found resilience because, during the first 20 minutes, they took a fearful hammering. Fergie's view "I can't hide my pleasure with this result because we knew it would be Liverpool's cup final with old rivalry surfacing. Yet we buckled down and showed determination. Early on, we were second to too many balls and defended too deep. Then we started to impose ourselves and after our second goal, Liverpool melted a bit. We created a lot of chances, and we came back well from the incredible goal scored by Ian Rush. It was a superb strike and I don't think you could fault our goalkeeper at all. Peter Schmeichel made an unbelievable save from Don Hutchison which was one of the best I have seen. When he is in that kind of form, the big man is formidable." Man of the Match Peter Schmeichel shaded a super team performance with a humdinger of a save which turned the game for United when it was going Liverpool's way.
